Dr Gavin Porter
Chief Executive Officer
ANFIC LTD
As
CEO of the Australian Nurserymen's Fruit Improvement
Company, I wish to present this summary of the companies'
activities and involvement in Australian Horticulture. We are proud
to be closely associated with and respected by Australian growers.
ANFIC has developed a flexible and responsive policy to the changing
pace of Horticulture worldwide and is keen to discuss this program
with all breeders in an effort to ensure the mutual satisfaction
and sustainable development of international Horticulture.
My experience with Australian Horticulture has been developed through
private industry and then through 17 years at the University of Queensland,
Gatton campus as a lecturer in Fruit Crop Production and Manager of
a 40 ha Horticulture Production Unit.
I have extensive experience in fruit
production and research with practical involvement in stonefruit
breeding, low chill stonefruit
and mango production.
My industry association has been supported by industry positions
in the Queensland Strawberry Industry and Australian Fresh Stone Fruit
Growers Association (Research and Development Committees). Overseas
experience has included research and fruit industry development in
the USA, Mexico, Indonesia, West Samoe and Vietnam.
More recently I have been appointed
Director and Corporate Secretary of AIGN (Associated International
Group of Nurseries), an international company
based in Washington State of the U.S.A.
ANFIC Ltd expanded its role in Australian
Horticulture Industries with the establishment of a fully owned
subsidiary company in 2006
called Horticulture Fresh Australia® (HFA) Pty Ltd.
This Company
was formed “To coordinate the production and marketing of ANFIC
managed ‘exceptional’ fruit varieties through committed growers
and market
agents to consumers and strive to provide the best outcomes and
sustainable returns for all participants.”
This Company role was further expanded
to include a Trading arm, PlantNet®, to increase sales of unique
and new fruit varieties
into the retail/home garden sector and improve the choice of new
fruit and ornamental varieties available to home gardeners in Australia.
This exciting new development is
further enhancing the role of ANFIC Ltd and now Horticulture Fresh
Australia/PlantNet in Australian horticulture.
I hope ANFIC and now HFA can continue
to develop strong and fruitful relationships with all its partners
in the
Horticultural World.
Regards
Dr Gavin Porter
