GOLD STRIKE
(A Washington State University Apricot Variety)
(Exclusive to ANFIC)
ORIGIN: Selected in 1975 from a 1972 cross of
Goldrich x (Benril or Earliril)
MATURITY: 1 week before Patterson
SHAPE Round to slightly oval
SIZE: Very large, growing up to
67mm diameter when well-thinned
SKIN: Light orange colour and slightly glossy.
A reddish blush covers up to 20% of the side
that is exposed to the sun.
FLESH: Highly coloured and orange, very firm,
meaty and moderately juicy.
Some acidity is associated with the skin.
STONE: Medium-large and free from the flesh
COMMENTS:The flowers are self-infertile. They are
cross-compatible with Goldbar, Goldrich, Perfection and Rival.
Goldstrike trees bloom
heavily and set heavy crops when hand pollinated in the tests for
cross compatibility, but fruit set is often moderate to light under
natural pollination. 800-1200 chill hours.
