JOA
SOUTH AFRICIAN MANGO VARIETY
Breeding:
Polyembryonic seedling of Palmer.
Maturity: Early/mid season approximately
3 weeks after Tommy Atkins.
Fruit Size: Very heavy cropper, may need
thinning - 420 grams with normal crop.
Fruit Shape: Flat oblong with
a tendency to form protuberances on a small number of fruit.
Skin Colour:
Ripe fruit is purple red and yellow.
Disease Tolerance: Recommended in
South Africa for planting in cool production areas. Excellent shelf life.
Tree Growth: Upright growth habit similar to Tommy Atkins.
Taste:
Exceptionally good taste with strong mango aroma, firm flesh.
Yield:
Exceptionally productive. Yields of 70.3kg, 198.5kg and 182.6kg were noted on
14, 15 and 17 year old trees respectively.
