Linmer
Nursery is located in the small country town of Canowindra in the central west
of New South Wales. The area is a farming centre located on the Belabula River
- a highly fertile valley known for its fat lambs and lucerne and in more recent
times for its wine.
The Nursery was established in the early 1970s
by Ron and Betty Harris as a side line to the Dorset Horn Sheep Stud that was
the main business, the Nursery was at that time growing Ornamentals
for Mount
Boyce Nursery owned by Rons brothers.
It was on the recommendation
of the Agricultural Department that the Nursery started to grow Stone and Pome
fruit trees for the industry. Geoff and Susan Harris (the current owners) purchased
the Nursery from Ron and Betty in 1987 and have continued to expand the Nursery
to its present size.
Linmer Nursery is a member of NGIA (Nursery & Garden Industry Association) and
are proud to be a founding member of ANFIC.
The
Nursery specialises in one-year springbud trees using a variety of rootstocks.
Our stocklines
include:
-
Peaches
-
Plums
-
Nectarines
-
Apricots
Apples
Pears
Almonds
Wine Grape Rootlings
All trees are grown in open ground in
a volcanic red loam soil.
The Nursery is situated on 2000 acres and is rotated on a constant basis to avoid
a build up of soil born diseases.
Where possible, VT rootstock and budwood are used.
Trees are personally delivered by Geoff so as to avoid any mixups in varieties
and orders.
Inspections of the Nursery are most welcome by appointment and growers are encouraged
to inspect their trees at any time during the growing season.
