Kiku apple Field Day at Mount View Orchards (March, 2007)
Our Nursery enterprise was commenced in 1973 by Bill Robson, John's Father,
to produce trees for our orchard expansion. Due to the quality
of those trees, orchardists became interested in our surplus ones,
and
due to the demand, the Nursery became a complimentary enterprise
for our orchard which has grown to over 100 hectares of apples.
The Nursery production is concentrating on the supply of apple
trees and rootstocks for commercial orchards.

Fruit from Trial Trees is graded and packed for appearance
trials

To maintain our quality, budding is preferred so that budwood can
be selected from trees in crop during late January and February.
Grafting
is done in late winter for special orders and for stable varieties
as required.
Rootstocks
grown are all from virus tested stocks when available. MM106, MM102,
M26, and M9 varieties are produced. An M9 clone, "337",
layer bed is being established along with the Australian Pome Fruit
Improvement Program (APFIP) certification program.
John has a wealth of experience in Orchard Management since 1968
and Nursery Management since 1979.
