2010/2011 Variety Evaluations - Bathurst, NSW

WEEK 4 - 29 November 2010

Comments: The weather leading up to this week has been very wet. 120mm+ with no sunshine, so low sugars in fruit.

Apache apricot 29/11/10 - The fruit had little red skin blush, 55mm (92g) fruit, average 12 Brix. Less than 10% cracking (mostly shoulder cracking with some nose cracking) even after 60mm rain. Nice apricot flavour. Approx. 30-40% crop after poor pollination.

Fla.96-J peach 29/11/10 - This is a medium chill (375 hours) non-melting flesh peach variety from Florida with a very short fruit development period. The fruit was a nice colour, average 70mm fruit (170g), average 12 Brix with NO sunshine. (average 60mm fruit on unthinned tree) Would replace Flordadawn grown in medium chill districts.
