2010/2011 Variety Evaluations - Bathurst, NSW

WEEK 6 - 13 December 2010

Comments: The weather leading up to this week has been very unstable with storms. 30mm+ with minimal sunshine, so low sugars in fruit.

Gulfcrest/(Golden Queen rootstock) YF Peach 14/12/10 - Gulfcrest is a medium chill (550 cu) peach from Florida. Fruit averaged 55mm (83g) with average TSS (12 Brix) this season. Trees had a <10% crop on Gulfcrest tree/Golden Queen rootstock. The Gulfcrest tree on Golden Queen rootstock is 30% larger and fruit matured 1 week later than on Pumiselect rootstock.

Gransun YF Nectarine 14/12/10 - This is a medium chill variety from California. Average 68mm fruit (155g) with average TSS (12 Brix) this season.

SF05-219 YF Peach 14/12/10 - This is a medium chill variety from France. Average 75mm fruit (220g) with average TSS (10-12 Brix) this season.

SF05-272 YF Nectarine 14/12/10 - This is a medium chill variety from France. Average 60mm fruit (116g) with average TSS (13-15 Brix) this season.

Spring Satin YF Plumcot 14/12/10 - This is a medium chill variety from Georgia, USA. Average 48-50mm fruit (65-70g) (unthinned tree) with average TSS (10-12 Brix) this season.

Goldstrike apricot 14/12/10 - The fruit had little red skin blush, 58-62mm (100-110g) fruit, average 15 Brix. Less than 10% cracking even after 30mm rain. Nice apricot flavour. Approx. 30-40% crop after poor pollination season.

H80-77 apricot 14/12/10 - The fruit had little red skin blush, 56mm (90g) fruit, average 13 Brix. Less than 2% cracking even after 30mm rain. Approx. 10% crop after poor pollination season.

J1-139 apricot 14/12/10 - The fruit had little red skin blush, 56mm (85-90g) fruit, average 13 Brix. Less than 2% cracking even after 30mm rain. Nice apricot flavour. Approx. 10% crop after poor pollination season.

Kinzica apricot 14/12/10 - The fruit had little red skin blush, 55mm (80g) fruit, average 16 Brix. Less than 2% cracking even after 30mm rain. Nice apricot flavour. Approx. 10% crop after poor pollination season.

 

MGM 311 apricot 14/12/10 - The fruit had little red skin blush, 52mm (68g) fruit, average 10-12 Brix. 60% cracking after 30mm rain. Nice apricot flavour. Approx. 10% crop after poor pollination season.
